Material Histories is a section comprised of works and experiments dating back from 2012 to the present day. These sticky notes and photographs assist me in making connections through recurring materials and actions. Rather than creating a lexicon, it serves as a method of understanding the fragility, malleability, and persistence of memory.

Between 2014 to 2021, I experienced a life-altering event that led to a trauma response, resulting in blank spots in my memory. These blank spaces made me feel like a floating, freeform shape with no historic anchoring; I was lost. Time was filled but I simply wasn't there. In the aftermath, I began to remember parts of myself through photographs, actions and objects. These sticky notes/photographs explore the relationship between trauma and memory, including the recovery of missing pieces or fragmented memories. Some of these photographs/pieces are from before a violent relationship and assist me in moving forward.

These actions become presences in newer works, re-configuring while validating my experiences as part of the healing process. They also help me reintegrate, retrace, and find new footing. Through this practice, I make sense of the world and my place in it. This is my attempt at finding and creating home - a place; co-jointly in and outside of myself. This approach allows me to release trauma, take authorship, and feel grounded in the present.
